The Yulin Dog Meat Festival is horrific, but is it worse than what we do in America with our own dogs?
So, over the next 10 days, butchers will be selling live dogs in the streets of Yulin to be made into meat for their annual festival. Simply horrific. So horrific that over 11 million people, including many Americans have petitioned for the end of it. Imagine. Street butchers literally killing dogs (some still with collars on them) to serve to the people of this area as part of a festival. I don’t even want to get in to how the dogs are killed. It’s just wrong and needs to end.
Now, imagine dogs being dragged into a gas chamber. They’re scared and stressed and can sense something is terribly wrong. The door closes, the gas gets turned on, and you can hear these animals cry, vomit, and fight with each other out of fear, all before losing consciousness. No words can describe how I feel as I envision this. But what is even more appalling, is this is happening in America. Seriously.
We, as a society are quick to judge and cry out when others commit unthinkable acts, yet we hypocritically push our own atrocities like this one aside. We as a community end the lives of millions of puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats every year that are healthy and adoptable – because we don’t have room for them in our homes. Shame on us.
Stop reading this now, and do something about it. Go to www.911fosterpets.com and save a life. Give one of these guys a couch to crash on so they don’t end up in an American landfill. Put on a cape and become a foster hero. Make change. We need you.
