List of animal shelters and rescues in the path of Hurricane Harvey
Even before a hurricane comes, many animal shelters are having to prepare for the unthinkable. And unfortunately, most of them are faced with tough decisions as they never have the resources necessary to save all the pets in their care.
When flood waters rise, these shelters need to ensure their animals aren’t left behind to starve or drowned. They also need to ensure that when the flood waters recede, they have plenty of open kennel space to take in all of the lost, abandoned, and stray pets rescued by their volunteers.
It’s truly chaos…. and they need our help.
We have compiled a list of all the shelters and rescue groups that will need help either directly or indirectly. Each one will need help in different ways, as each will play different roles. Many of the shelters will become “ground zero” for the lost and abandoned animals in their areas, while many rescue groups will be the “behind the scenes” heroes that will find foster families and volunteers to take in all of the overflow.
But one thing is certain… they will all need resources, supplies and volunteers. So, please reach out to them, and help them in any way you can.

If I can help with a foster home,let me know,if inside cat needs to be able to get along with cat and dog that I already have. If outside, just able to get along with another cat,mime are all neutered. Would like for the fosters to be as well.

I have a large fenced in yard in Cincy, OH & can take care of many cats & make sure they are fed & crate if needed if someone can transport them to me, I am disabled. I have one indoor & would treat them all as if my own… like my child.

I have a friend in Humble whose 3 cats need fostering while they strip their home of damaged sheetrock, carpeting, etc. Please respond with your contact info so I can have her call you. Her cats have crates and a litter box, and are frightened from all that’s been going on. Thank you for being willing to help!

definitely look at both shelters and rescue groups. Keep in mind, your local ones may need supplies if they are planning to take in any via transport, so that may be a good start.

I would love to start a drop off in my area, (Carlisle, Pennsylvania) for food, medication, supplies etc…if I get enough, I will personally pay for a UPS transport. Would there be a centralized location for delivery that can be distributed to the many other shelters in need? If this is do-able please contact me with information.

From there, choose a shelter that is closest to you and reach out to them via email. They should be able to coordinate that. In the meantime, we will let you know if we hear of anything in your area.

I could foster 2 small dogs that get along with other dogs and cats. I live in Tulsa OK I would need transport for them or I have heard the 300 dogs are coming to Tulsa from Houston to the Humane Soc. should I go there to foster?

We live all the way in Virginia Beach, VA HOWEVER….we would love to foster any fur babies in need of a home until their families can take them back. We have 3 friendly and neutered male labs and a fenced back yard on a 2 acre lot. Veterinary references and foster experience. We will keep in touch with the family and send pictures and updates until your pet can safely return home.

Home with fenced yard available in San Diego for an small senior dog. Must get along well with other dogs (we have one small senior girl). Can foster as long as needed until someone gets back on their feet. Someone is home full time so dog won’t be alone.

Day of the Dogs is a nonprofit that supports the Harris County Animal Shelter. We just started a transport to Kansas city monthly and need temp fosters for small dogs (2-4 weeks) http://www.dayofthedogs.org
We offer medical and care advice for pets on our Apple and Android app. We usually charge for vet opinions but will waive fees for the next few weeks for anyone caring for victims of Harvey or Irma.
