Help us ensure Animal Shelters & Rescues are “Essential” Services

We need your help! One after another, states are enforcing “shelter at home” orders.  When this happens, the administrators need to determine which services are and are not deemed “essential.”   We need to make sure that all animal control facilities, shelters, rescue groups and veterinarians are deemed essential, so they can continue to take care of our four legged family members.

Here’s what you can do:

Sign up to become a foster hero at www.911fosterpets.com

Go to www.911fosterpets.com to find shelters and rescues in your area that need help finding foster homes and adopters to clear out their shelters.  What better way to save a life than spending time with your new furry friend during a quarantine?

Petition your county commissioner or congressperson to make animal welfare organizations and veterinarian offices “essential” services

Each county and state is different, but find the decision makers in your area and encourage this, start a petition, and keep at it.  If the organizations close, there will be no one to care for lost animals, incoming pets, pets left in homes, and all the pets currently at shelters.

Donate food and other supplies to your local shelters and rescue groups

We recently heard that local rescue groups in Texas are no longer able to purchase the food they need for the animals in their care because of a rationing program at local pet supply stores.  This is devastating for animal welfare groups as they rely on these resources to feed their pets.  Keep an eye out on social media for groups needing supplies and send or drop off what you can.

Remember, we’re all in this together, and we will get through this.  However, our furry best friends are relying on us and they need our help now more than ever!
