What about my own pets?

 

Plan on keeping your pets separate from your foster pet for a period of time.

 

The rescue organization should be able to advise you on the health status of the pet and if their veterinarian advises keeping pets separate and for how long. Talk with your own veterinarian as well, regarding any precautions he or she wants you to take with your pets. Even if your foster pet is medically cleared to be around your pets, plan on keeping them separate at first and going slow with introductions.  (Depending on the pets it may take several days or weeks before they’re ready for slow introductions.)
